P90x

P90x Day 66: Back & Biceps

While working out today I realized how important it is to write down the weight and reps you do on each exercise.  Without a reference to go from I know I wouldn’t push myself to do more than last time.

Back & Biceps went good, I like all the curls in this P90x workout.

P90x Day 64: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

I love this P90x workout.  It’s quite a tough one on the shoulders, triceps, and chest.

I’ve been trying my hardest to make sure I hit muscle failure on each exercise.  My chest, shoulders and triceps were so tired just after the first few exercises that I couldn’t imagine how I was going to make it through the rest.  Halfway through I couldn’t imagine making it through it, then three quarters of the way through I thought the same thing.

Then all of a sudden I had Ab Ripper X and then it was over.  Crazy how that works!

P90x Day 63: Stretch X & End of Week 9

P90x Stretch X was nice.  I’ve been pretty sore and stiff this week, so it was good to loosen up.

Week 9 went good.  I have tons of energy for the workouts and have been working my hardest at them.  I’d like to lose weight a little faster.  I feel like I’ve been stuck in the 16% body fat range for too long.

P90x Day 62: Kenpo X

I was thinking during the P90x Kenpo X workout today that it would be fun to have a punching bag or even multiple punching bags to use in this workout.  There are lots of combos and kicks so I think it would be fun to have bags set up to practice on.

Kenpo X never fails to get a sweat going.

P90x Day 61: Legs & Back

P90x Legs & Back was brutal today.  The workout is getting easier, so I am able to push myself much harder in it.  I can do the normal wall squat, and the single-leg wall squat a hundred times better now.

My legs were so weak at the start of P90x that this workout was very mentally and physically challenging.  Now that I’m stronger it’s much easier to make it through!

P90x Day 60: Yoga X

My brother recently started P90x, and when he said he was thinking about not doing the P90x Yoga X workout, I instantly tried to talk him into continuing doing it.

I know that I HATED Yoga X the first few times I did it.  I thought Yoga was a waste of time for me, and I didn’t have patience for it.  I made myself do it, and after a few Yoga workouts it grew on me.

Now I see how it has benefited me probably more than any other P90x workout.  It has helped me develop control over my body and mind, improve my balance, and my flexibility.  I can’t imagine doing P90x without doing Yoga X.

Today’s workout went great, as did the diet.

P90x Day 59: Shoulders & Arms

My shoulders felt it in today’s Shoulders & Arms P90x workout.  I’ve been working on pushing myself to muscle failure.  I don’t really care about putting on much muscle mass right now, I just want to work as hard as I can so I can lose fat!

The resistance bands work great in this workout.  I’m happy I bought them!

P90x Day 58: Plyometrics

Today I was really sore from yesterday’s P90x Chest & Back workout.  It was a very hard workout!

Plyometrics is one of my least favorite workouts, probably because it is a weak area for me.  I’m glad P90x has a workout like this in it, as I know it is very beneficial for me.

My balance wasn’t the greatest before P90x, and I have always felt “slow.”  I have read that Plyometrics helps with both muscle reaction time and balance, so even though it’s one of my least favorite workouts, I’ll keep pressing play!

The energy booster diet is going well, no complaints.  I really enjoy being able to eat 3 servings of carbs!

P90x Day 57: Chest & Back is Back

It’s been awhile, but it’s back! Today’s P90x workout was Chest & Back.  It is such a draining workout, I completely worked my chest and back until exhaustion.

There is no way to get through this workout without feeling it.  When I wasn’t even halfway through it, my muscles were already thoroughly exhausted.

I really pushed until muscle failure on all the sets.  During phase 3 of P90x I want to focus on maxing out on every set.

P90x Day 56: Phase 2 Completed!

Stretch X went fine as usual. Today marks the end of week 8 of P90x and the end of phase 2.  It’s going by so fast!

Overall I’d say week 8 was great.  This whole week had an emphasis on recovery and abs.  The recovery was nice.  Recovery weeks are definitely easier on me than the other weeks.

Right now I have zero soreness and I’m hankering to push myself as hard as I can go in week 9.  I certainly feel ready to “bring it!”

Phase 2 Completed

Honestly I would have liked to have built some more muscle, but I’m happy with the weight I have lost. I think I tend to have unrealistic expectations, because I was expecting to be completely flub free by the end of P90x. I’ve realized now that excellent fitness is not achieved overnight. Rather, it takes steady work and time.

The measurements below show a slight change in my thighs and biceps at the end of phase 2.

Overall I felt like phase 2 was slow going results wise for me.  There were many days when I felt low on energy.  The fat shredder diet worked great in phase 1, but it wasn’t working well for me in phase 2.  I made the switch to the energy booster diet, and now I have so much more energy! I think it was ridiculous that I didn’t switch sooner!

I’m ready to kick it up a notch in phase 3.  I have to work a lot harder if I want to get to my goal of 10% body fat. However, judging by the way things are going, it doesn’t look like it is possible.  I’m still going to go for it though.

End of Phase 2 Measurements

  • Weight: 173.4 (-8.6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.1% (-5.7%)
  • Waist: 37” (-0”)
  • Hips: 37” (-0”)
  • Bicep Right: 15 1/2” (+1/2”)
  • Bicep Left: 15 1/2” (+1/2”)
  • Thigh Right: 21” (-1 1/4”)
  • Thigh Left: 21” (-1 1/2”)

P90x Day 55: Yoga X

The first couple of times I did the P90x Yoga X workout I couldn’t even hold upward dog without keeping my knees off the ground. I wasn’t strong enough to do that the whole time.

This workout I had so much energy and was able to push myself hard.  It really is hard to stay low in the lunges during the first half of Yoga X, it definitely burns.  This time I made myself get low in the lunges and wow was it hard.

The Energy Booster diet is going good.  I’ve been trying to spread out my food more evenly throughout the day.  I suppose that is one bonus of following the meal plan, they tell you exactly what to eat and when to eat it.  If you go with the portion plan it’s up to you to decide what your meals are and when to eat them.

Lately I’ve been gorging and eating everything in two meals and then starving the rest of the day.  I read that in order to keep your metabolism up, it’s better to eat small meals 6 times a day, so I’m aiming for that, although it feels rather time consuming!

P90x Day 54: Core Synergistics

Today’s P90x workout was Core Synergistics. I can’t do too many push-ups yet, so exercises like prison cell push-ups are very tiring! I start out feeling great on the first few and then I… get slower…. & slower… and then I start huffing and puffing and feel ready to fall down on the floor.

Over all I was very happy with how hard I pushed myself. The Energy Booster diet is going swell.

P90x Day 53: Stretch X

Each time Stretch X comes along I notice something I’m a little more flexible at. For example, today I could finally grab my foot with both hands on the single leg hamstring stretches.

I couldn’t do that before P90x without ripping something.

P90x Day 52: Kenpo X

My hip joints pop like crazy in workouts like Kenpo X and Ab Ripper X. I’ve been told that it’s because I have weak hip flexors. I would have to agree with that because every exercise that gets the hip flexors is hard for me, and I can definitely tell that it is a weak area for me.

I’m hoping that as I get stronger in P90x that this will go away. It’s annoying to have your hip joints pop when you do kicks in Kenpo.

P90x Day 51: Core Synergistics

Today was only the third time I’ve done P90x Core Synergistics, so it was nice to do a workout that I haven’t done in awhile.

In this workout I find exercises like bow to boat, prison cell push-up, and plank to chaturanga run really hard to do.

Resistance bands aren’t as good to have as weights are for Core Synergistics, because you can’t really use the bands on a few of the exercises.

Overall today’s workout went great and the diet is going good too.  The Energy Booster diet is giving me plenty of energy to do the workouts.

P90x Day 50: Yoga X

Day 50 is the start of a new workout schedule, with a focus on recovery and ab work.  I don’t feel sore or like I need recovery time, but I’ll take it.

In today’s P90x Yoga X workout I was finally able to hold crane pose for more than 8 seconds.  Balancing in that position was always hard for me, and I think I lacked the strength to be able to hold it for long.  Now that I’m stronger it was much easier to hold.  I wasn’t able to hold it the whole minute, but it was a huge improvement nonetheless!

I realized in this workout that I have been slacking on poses by not getting down low enough. In previous workouts I thought I was doing fairly well, today however, I noticed that I really am not getting as low as I could.  I suppose I spent more time concentrating on my arms than how low I was.

Yoga has always been hard, but it is so much harder when you get low in the stances.  My legs really felt it.

P90x Day 49: Supercharged!

I feel so alive! I switched from the Fat Shredder diet to the Energy Booster (rightly named) diet and the difference between the amount of energy I have today compared to previous days is AMAZING.

I’m glad I made the switch, because now I feel like I can put so much more into my P90x workouts!

Too bad I only had Stretch X today, because I could have put all the energy I had to good use in a workout like Plyometrics.

P90x Week 7 Overview

Week 7 of P90x was a really tough week for me! I felt sick in the beginning, and had little energy throughout the rest of it.  My workouts were suffering greatly because I felt lousy.

I finished the week strong and with tons of energy.  Now I can’t wait for next week, which will be a recovery and ab focus week.

P90x Day 48: Not… going… to…zzzz

Bla bla bla, today’s P90x Kenpo X workout was sleepy. I have been low on energy for the past few days, and I even feel slightly nauseated at times when I’m working out. I don’t get a lot of carbs in the fat shredder diet, and I think that my body may be screaming for more of them, so tomorrow I’m going to switch to the Energy Booster diet (which lets you eat more carbs) and see how I feel then.

The P90x nutrition guide suggests changing to the next diet (there’s three different diets) when you feel like your performance is suffering in your workouts, so I suppose tomorrow I’ll move to the next one and see how it goes.

One thing I’m afraid of is that I’ll lose fat slower, but at this point I’d rather be able to stay awake during the workouts and give it my all than feel like I’m half dead while I’m working out.

P90x Day 47: Whoooo Yeah

I started today’s Legs & Back P90x workout in great shape, but towards the end I found myself short on breath and out of energy. According to the P90x nutrition guide you should switch diets when you feel like you are running low on energy.  I certainly feel like that, but I’m going to wait to see how I feel tomorrow.

Wall squats used to be my enemy, now they are my friend. I kind of zoned out while they were going on, and made it through them without my legs shaking and burning like the dickens. Happy day.

P90x Day 47 Measurements

  • Weight: 175.2 lbs (-6.8 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.1% (-5.7%)

P90x Day 46: Feeling Sick

Today’s P90x workout was Yoga X.  I felt sick today, but by the time Yoga X came around I was feeling a little better, but still not well enough to go all out.  Instead of skipping the workout I went ahead and did what I could.

What I like about P90x is that there’s usually a beginner or an intensified version of each workout.  Instead of being thrown right into it and being expected to be able to do all the advanced exercises that are extremely difficult, they give you options, which is nice.  Today in Yoga X I took the easier route.

So far in P90x I haven’t progressed to the point where I can do the intensified versions of each exercise.  Some of them are really stinkin’ hard, especially in Yoga X.

P90x Day 46 Measurements

  • Weight: 175 lbs (-7 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.2% (-5.6%)

P90x Day 45: HALFWAY Through P90x!

I didn’t eat a whole lot at all today. I did great at the beginning of the P90x Chest, Shoulders & Triceps workout, but towards the end I crashed and wasn’t able to do better than last time.

Working on getting a regular sleep schedule to help me perform better.

I really did not want to do Ab Ripper X today. I wish I could say I love working out and that it is my favorite thing to do, but that’s not the truth.  Some days I love working out, some days I hate it.  I know that if I give myself any slack, P90x could easily end up tucked away somewhere collecting dust.

Ab Ripper was hard.  My energy was spent from shoulder and triceps so I was really struggling.  My #1 goal for all the workouts is to make it through them and do what I can, so I was still happy once it was over.

What also makes me happy is that I am officially halfway through P90x! It’s been a hard, but fun ride and I am really looking forward to day 90!

P90x Day 45 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.4 lbs (-5.6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.5% (-5.3%)

P90x Day 44: Plyometrics

Bleck, Plyometrics.  I have improved drastically in Plyometrics, but if any P90x workout is the most mentally challenging, it is this one.

Squats, lunges, and jumping galore.  With me being out of breath and having my legs burning like crazy, this P90x workout really challenges me mentally to keep pushing hard.

I worked up a lot of sweat and even felt a little nauseated at certain times.

P90x Day 44 Measurements

  • Weight: 174.6 lbs (-7.4 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.4% (-5.4%)

P90x Day 43: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

Woohoo, I love this workout.

I do however have trouble using the bands for exercises where you have to make a loop to shorten them.  It drives me nuts to have one side of the band longer than the other one so I spend longer than I should making the perfect loop.  I suppose my loop making skills have room to improve.  The exercise is usually halfway over by the time I get my loop made.

There are so many exercises in this workout that kill my triceps and shoulders that my arms always feel like stiff dead weights at the end of it.

P90x Day 43 Measurements

  • Weight: 175.2 lbs (-6.8 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.1% (-5.7%)

P90x Day 42: Stretch

I was extremely sore and tight today.  So stretching today was painful.

Before P90x I used to maybe spend 5 minutes to no minutes stretching before I did any kind of workout.  I felt like it waste of time and that I would be perfectly fine without it.  I still wanted to be more flexible, but I never wanted to take the time to do it. Since P90x has started I have realized the importance of stretching and how much it improves my performance.

I can do the P90x workouts better now that I’m more flexible, and I’ve noticed that it helps to get rid of stiffness in my muscles and helps me recover faster.

P90x Week 6 Overview

I started week 6 of P90x feeling great.  I even was able to do Ab Ripper X all the way through without stopping! It was amazing! To think just 6 weeks about my I would take a break what felt like every 5 seconds because my abs would be killing me. Now I can finish Ab Ripper X all the way through and do all 349 ab exercises!

Towards the end of week 6 I plummeted (my energy level did anyway).  I’m hoping I will bounce back and be a crazy man during week 7 of P90x! A crazy man burns more calories.

P90x Day 42 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.2 lbs (-5.8 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.7% (5.1%)

P90x Day 41: Kenpo X

Kenpo X is great. I generally don’t enjoy cardio exercise (like running) because most of the time I find it boring.  Kenpo X on the other hand isn’t boring!

I sweated a ton during today’s workout, and didn’t feel so great. I felt like I was lacking energy today. I was definitely sore in my abs from yesterday.

P90x Day 41 Measurements

  • Weight: 176 lbs (-6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.3% (-5.5%)

P90x Day 40: I Can’t Believe It!

P90x Legs & Back went great.  I went all out and had tons of energy to spare!  Ab Ripper X was excellent!

Today will go down in history as the first day that I was able to do ALL 349 ab/core exercises.  I didn’t have to stop and I did all the reps!  I may not have done the reps as well as Tony Horton or the rest of the people on the P90x Ab Ripper X video, but I was able to do all of them nonetheless! I felt great afterwards and I was so happy with myself that I was able to accomplish that!

P90x Day 40 Measurements

  • Weight: 176 lbs (-6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.3% (-5.5%)

P90x Day 39: Yoga X

Yoga is an extremely long workout.  An hour and a half of Yoga is not easy to make it through.  The first 45 or so minutes are the hardest.

Once I make it through that all is well until the Yoga Belly 7 comes along.  Boat, torso twist hold, and touch the sky are always hard.

P90x Day 39 Measurements

  • Weight: 175.6 lbs (-6.4 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.3% (-5.5%)

P90x Day 38: Can’t… curl… any… longer

In the P90x Back & Biceps workout you do so many curls that I don’t know how anyone could get through it without feeling it in their biceps. I worked hard in this workout.  Afterwards my arms and my back felt stiff and thoroughly exhausted.

Today was the 2nd time I have done this workout, and already I felt stronger and did a little better than the first time.

It makes me happy and gives me a boost of motivation whenever I see improvements in in my P90x workouts!

I made Ab Ripper X more fun by adjusting my attitude.  In the past workouts I have found myself thinking, “Aggh, not this exercise, I hate this one, it’s too hard.”  Saying stuff like that I found really influences my performance negatively.  This time I said out loud, “I love this one!” every time the next exercise came up. I felt more positive after saying that and I ended up doing better.

During the last exercise in Ab Ripper X (mason twists), I was able to push myself to go faster than I ever have before in the last few seconds.  By the way, I love that exercise!

P90x Day 38 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.6 lbs (-5.4 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.4% (-5.4%)

P90x Day 37: Jump Around

What a surprise! The P90x Plyometrics workout is STILL killer.

Even when I feel good and think, “Man I’m doing great! I’m not even that tired yet!”- all it takes is for me to jump just a little higher, or squat just a little lower each time for my legs to get completely burnt out.  Today I felt pretty good during the first half, so I decided to push myself harder and squat lower and in no time I was sweating like crazy.

The fat shredder diet is going fine.  With all the food I can eat in this diet, it is amazing that I am losing weight. I keep a folder with me to keep track of what I eat throughout the day, which has been working great.

P90x Day 37 Measurements

  • Weight: 177.4 lbs (-4.6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.8% (-5%)

P90x Day 36: All Better

My hamstring was all better, and I felt like I had tons of energy during today’s P90x Chest, Shoulders & Triceps workout.

Resistance bands are kind of fun to use, partly because I enjoy trying new things. In the past I always used dumbells at a fitness center (when I USED to workout) and I never even had thought about using resistance bands.  Now that I don’t have access to a fitness center, and don’t want to go broke buying an expensive dumbell set, I’m trying out resistance bands.

Resistance bands feel a lot different from dumbells, but so far they are working quite well.  I can tell I’m getting stronger every workout!

Ab Ripper X went alright.  It is annoying and uncomfortable to have my hips pop when I’m doing excercises like fifer scissors.  My hips pop nearly every time I switch legs.  I’m hoping that it will go away as I get stronger!

P90x Day 36 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.8 lbs (-5.2 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.6% (-5.2%)

P90x Day 35: Stretch X

The end of the week (rest day) is a nice break from all the hard P90x workouts. It feels like my reward for living through another week of P90x.

I didn’t want to skip doing  stretch x, because after it I always feel more loose and it seems like it makes my muscles happy, sooooo yeah, I went ahead and stretched.

I was fairly tight today, and my pulled hamstring was a little sore, but better. Stretching felt like it helped.

I just finished week 5, which was the second week of the new workout routine.  It was a pretty solid week, aside from pulling a muscle.

P90x Day 35 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.4 lbs (-5.6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.5% (-5.3%)

P90x Day 34: Kenpo X

My workout schedule has been erratic.  Lately I’ve been working out late, late, late at night, and my P90x Kenpo X workout today suffered because of it.  I was throwing half awake punches and kicks, and my hamstring was still sore from pulling it yesterday. Thankfully, it’s not bad enough to keep me from doing P90x.

P90x Day 34 Measurements

  • Weight: 175.4 lbs (-6.6 lbs)
  • Fat:16.6% (-5.2%)

P90x Day 33: Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X

Today’s P90x Legs & Back workout went alright besides me pulling a muscle in my leg.  It happened during one of the many lunges that are in this workout.  I think I lunged to far for my hamstring to handle.  It affected my performance during the rest of the workout, and made Ab Ripper X a little more difficult as well.  Overall though, I was able to make it through them and still get a great workout.

P90x Day 33 Measurements

  • Weight: 177.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.9% (-4.9%)

P90x Day 32: Yoga

Yoga.  It’s frustrating, but yet it’s relaxing.

I am experiencing huge improvements in Yoga.  My increased flexibility has helped me be able to do the Yoga moves better than before.

There are a series of moves in the P90x Yoga X workout that I still have huge trouble with.  The standing splits, and half moon to twisting half moon are horribly difficult for me.  I have gotten better though.  Before I would attempt for a few seconds and then give up in frustration.  Now I can go for more than a few seconds without wobbling and losing my balance!

P90x Day 32 Measurements

  • Weight: 177.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
  • Fat: 17.3% (-4.5%)

P90x Day 31: Feeling The Burn

I love the Back & Biceps workout! Today was the first day I’ve done it.  Lots of curls in this workout!

Resistance bands take some time getting used to.  I was pretty clumsy using the bands today. It sometimes is a little tricky situating them right under your foot and making sure there is even tension on both sides of the band.

My energy level was low today, so I was running on empty by the time I got to Ab Ripper X.

P90x Day 31 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.4 lbs (-5.6 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.4% (-5.4%)

The numbers on the right show what I’ve lost in total while doing P90x.

P90x Day 30: What a Doozy

In today’s P90x workout I went all out.  Plyometrics was a doozy! I pushed myself to the point that I had to back up a little because I thought I might vomit on the carpet if I kept going that hard.

Plyometrics is always hard (ALL the P90x workouts are hard), today though, I was ten times better at it than when I started!

P90x Day 30 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.8 lbs (-5.2 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.8% (-5%)

P90x Day 29: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

Truth be told, I don’t like doing cardio workouts.  I do however, like doing workouts like today’s Chest, Shoulders & Tricep routine.  I enjoy lifting weights or using resistance bands, which this workout had quite a bit of.

This workout had me at muscle failure right away during the first exercise, which was 3-in-1 push-ups. I’m not a push-up master yet, so it took very few reps for me to start shaking.

All that core work last week really paid off in the P90x Ab Ripper X workout that followed.  I was much stronger than before and I did better than ever!

P90x Day 29 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.6 lbs (-5.4)
  • Fat: 16.8% (-5%)

Phase 1 of P90x Completed!

I can’t believe phase 1 of P90x is finished! I’m really satisfied with how it went, and I am loving the results P90x has given me.

My goal for phase 1 of P90x was to just make it through and get a feel for things.  The workouts are difficult, but after the third time I felt like I was getting the hang of them.

The fat shredder diet took some getting used to in phase 1.  Overall I had plenty of energy throughout the month.  I did a horrible job drinking water, and didn’t drink nearly enough for most of phase 1.  Just now in the last few days have I stepped up and set a goal to drink 100 ounces of water a day, which I have been doing fairly well at.

Results wise, I am extremely happy with what happened in phase 1 of P90x.  I can’t believe what I have achieved in only 28 days.  The results inspire me to keep pushing myself.

Overall, already I feel more healthy, fit, and more energetic.  The improvement I saw each workout amazed me.  It really is amazing what can happen in only 28 days! I went from feeling completely out of shape to feeling stronger and more fit.  I can feel my pants getting looser and looser!

I had the option to change from the “fat shredder” diet to the “energy booster” plan (which has more carbs in it), but I have decided to stick with “fat shredder.” I have plenty of energy, so I don’t feel like I need to switch quite yet.

I’m looking forward to phase 2 of P90x. I can’t wait to see how much more fit I’ll be at the end of phase 2!

End of Phase 1 P90x Measurements

  • Waist: 37″ (-2″)
  • Hips: 37″ (-2″)
  • Bicep Right: 15″
  • Bicep Left: 15″
  • Thigh Right: 22.25″ (-3/4″)
  • Thigh Left: 22.25″ (-1.75″)

I’ve lost weight, and my pants are fitting looser. I’m happy!

P90x Day 28: Stretch X

I always look forward to P90x Stretch X. It’s a nice break, and after I do it I always feel better. I’m much more flexible than I was when I first started P90x.

Week 4 of P90x Overview

Week 4 of my get fit with P90x journey was a nice change from the last three weeks.  It was nice to have a different workout schedule.  This week was full of cardio workouts. Although I really don’t like cardio excercise, I was happy with the Core Synergistics workout.

Overall, week 4 of P90x wasn’t all that hard.  I was sore after the first Core Synergistics workout, but after that soreness went down, and I made it through the week alright.

P90x Day 28 Measurements

  • Weight: 177 lbs (-5 lbs)
  • Fat: 17% (-4.8%)

P90x Day 27: Yoga X

Every time I do P90x Yoga X I get a little more flexible, and a little better. Today I was actually able to put my arm behind my back and grab it from underneath my leg.  The last time I attempted it, I nearly dislocated my shoulder.

P90x Day 27 Measurements

  • Weight: 176.6 lbs (-5.4 lbs)
  • Fat: 16.8% (-5%)

P90x Day 26: Core

Core Synergistics went great.  I noticed a slight improvement from the first time I did it.  You are supposed to tighten your core throughout the entire workout.  So far I lack the core strength to be able to keep it tight during every exercise.

I found that for the P90x Core Synergistics workout, it is nice to have light dumbells, because there are a few exercises that you can’t use resistance bands with.

P90x Day 26 Measurements

P90x Day 25: X Stretch Day

My appetite was very strong today and I ate everything I could eat on the P90x Fat Shredder nutrition plan.

I’ve been doing horrible drinking water, and I know that it would be healthier for me and would even give me better results if I drank more, so I set a goal to drink 100 ounces of water a day. So far I’ve only accomplished that goal once, but I was able to do it today.

P90x Stretch X went great, I always enjoy stretching!

P90x Day 24: Sore From Core Synergistics

Today I was pretty sore in my obliques from the previous day’s P90x workout Core Synergistics.  Yesterday was the first time I did the Core Synergistics workout and judging from my level of soreness today it feels like it did a good job exercising my core muscles.

The P90x Kenpo X workout today was a little harder to do than usual because of soreness, but I made it through alright. I felt somewhat lethargic but I still saw improvement.  The Kenpo moves were a little tricky the first few times I did this workout, but today I felt like I was getting the hang of them.

P90x Day 23: Core Synergistics

Today was the first day I have done the P90x Core Synergistics workout.  My core is pretty weak, so I liked this workout.  It was a hard one for me, but it was also a fun.  There’s lots of different exercises that keep it interesting.

The diet is going alright. I felt like I had plenty of energy today. I did a horrible job drinking water though and drank only 24 ounces.  That is a long way off from my goal of 100 ounces of water a day.

P90x Day 22: A Whole New Level

I am exercising at a whole new level now!  I am more fit than I was when I first started P90x, and during today’s workout, as well as the last few workouts I felt like it was a whole different ball game. I can push myself harder, and I can do more.  It’s a great feeling!

In the first two weeks I was struggling for breath, and I would feel almost in pain while doing the P90x workouts (especially Yoga X).  Now while I’m doing the P90x workouts I feel pumped! I have a better mentality because I know pushing myself harder will make me stronger and give me better results!

The P90x Yoga X workout today went great.  I felt more capable of doing the moves, even though there are still several moves I struggle with. I was able to push myself farther than I was able to before.

The Yoga X workout really is a hard one, but today I felt more flexible, stronger, and more in control than the previous workouts.  Before today, I wasn’t able to make it through the yoga belly 7 workout without stopping.

Today it was still hard, but I was glad that I did it all without stopping! My abs and core strength really has improved a ton! While I really disliked the Yoga X workout at the start of P90x, it has grown on me, probably because I am getting much better at it!

This week’s workouts are different than the last three weeks.  This is where the muscle confusion comes in.  This week is basically all cardio workouts.

P90x Day 21: Muscles Really Tight

Today was either a rest day or a X Stretch day. Today I didn’t want to do X Stretch.  It was late and I was tired so I really didn’t like the idea of spending an hour stretching.  I know stretching is important, and it is something I would like to get better at, so I made myself do it.

It’s funny that no matter how much I may not want to do a P90x workout, afterwards I’m always glad I made myself do it! My muscles were really tight, so stretching was really helpful.

Week 3 of P90x Overview

Today marked the end of week 3 of my P90x “get fit” journey. It was very challenging mentally.  There were several times when I didn’t want to do the workouts and came close to almost skipping them.  I stuck to it though and made myself do them which I am really glad I did.  My fitness is not worth skipping! If I had skipped it would have only made it easier for me to skip another P90x workout in the future, and I don’t want P90x to be another workout program I started and never followed through with!

P90x Day 20: Working Hard & Having Fun

The P90x Kenpo X workout today was one of the best workouts I’ve had so far. I went all out and put in everything I had into Kenpo X.

It’s amazing how much a positive mentality can affect a workout. About 10 minutes into the workout I set it in my mind that I was going to work as hard as I could and make it fun.  I was doing alright until then but I wasn’t working as hard as I could.  With a new mentality though, I had more fun and worked harder.

I drank lots of water today (100 ounces) , because honestly I know I can be losing fat faster than this, and I’m hoping that this helps. I have also been trying to do the workouts earlier in the day because working out at night doesn’t work for me.

My energy level is much higher earlier in the day, and I feel much better doing the P90x workouts earlier. I’ve been trying to make a habit of doing the P90x workouts after I wake up.

P90x Day 19: Me So Hungry!

The P90x Legs & Back workout went well. I can’t do too many pull-ups yet so I have been using a chair to assist me in doing more reps.  This time I was able to do a couple unassisted pull-ups each time and then do several more with the chair, which is better than what I was doing before.

In the Ab Ripper X workout I was able to go 5 minutes without stopping, which is a huge improvement for me.  The Fifer Scissors excercise always kills me, and this time, like usual, I had to stop several times during it.

The rest of the Ab Ripper X workout went well, I had to take breaks during several exercises, especially the last one, Mason Twists. That one burns my abs like crazy.  I can now do it for much longer without stopping. I  remember that when I first did it I was really pathetic at it and I had to stop nearly every 2-3 seconds.

Overall, today I saw lots of improvement during the Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X workouts.

My appetite was very strong today, and I easily ate everything besides the 2 servings of protien I had left.  Eating 7 servings of protien is hard for me to do, in fact I’ve only been able to do it once out of the 19 days I’ve done P90x.

P90x Day 18: Yoga Isn’t So Bad Anymore

There is a move in the Yoga X workout that has you reach one arm behind your back and one arm under your leg and then clasp your hands. I’m not describing it very well, but that is the general gist of it.  I haven’t gotten even close to being able to do this, but today I tried really really hard and I swear I almost dislocated my left shoulder. Maybe next time.

The P90x Yoga X workout went great.  It really helps me do the moves and appreciate the Yoga X workout better when I clear my mind and not think about anything. Not thinking about anything is extremely hard by the way.

I did much better doing Yoga today.  This is the 3rd time I’ve done it and it wasn’t so bad, it helps to know what to expect. If I expect torture, I handle it fine.

The Yoga Belly 7 kills me.  It is 7 ab excercises that involve you holding your legs, or legs and arms off the ground. I noticed I have become much more flexible, I can almost touch my head to my knee on the one-legged hamstring stretch. The frog stretch kills me.

At the end of the P90x Yoga X workout they do “Ohms” in a cross legged sitting position.  I feel silly doing them, but I still do them anyways. I like to give new things a try, and honestly, it does feel pretty relaxing to do “Ohms” regardless of how silly I look and feel.

Diet wise I have been trying to drink more water. I’m not drinking nearly enough.  They recommend you drink 72-96 ounces of water a day.

There have been many days when I haven’t come close to reaching that. The Fat Shredder nutrition plan is going good, the hardest part is eating all the protiens and vegetables.  I used to eat lots of carbs (way too many in fact), so eating only one carb serving a day feels weird to me.  The Fat Shredder diet is going good.

P90x Day 17: Getting a grip on things…

It took me this long to finally feel like I have a grip on P90x and the diet.

Before P90x I was used to grabbing and eating whatever was fastest, and whatever was fastest often wasn’t the healthiest. When P90x started, my old way of eating went out the window. I was in new territory. Up until now it took me forever to figure out what to eat, then fix it, and finally sit down and eat it.

I’m taking the “portion approach” to the P90x Fat Shredder plan, and now after 17 days of practice eating this new and healthier way, I feel like I finally have a grip on things. I carry water around with me everywhere, I keep a folder nearby so I can mark down what I have eaten, and now it doesn’t take me all day to prepare and eat my food.

On the getting fit side of things, the P90x Shoulder & Arms workout went great although I still don’t have strong enough weights (resistance bands in my case) to do the job. I’m having to do way too many reps to get a good workout. I want to build muscle size, so I should be maxing out at 8-10 reps.

I am really happy with how well I did in Ab Ripper X today.  I have been improving in everything, but the one P90x workout that I am most excited about getting better at is Ab Ripper X.

The first few Ab Ripper X workouts thoroughly killed me. I would have to take a break within the first 15 seconds of it starting. Today I made it through several minutes of Ab Ripper X without stopping.

I am looking forward to the day when I can conquer Ab Ripper X and make it all the way through it without taking a break. That will certainly be a day of victory and much rejoicing, at least in my mind.
